  • PDA - Pathological Demand Avoidance | PACT For Autism

PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) What is PDA? PDA is widely understood to be a profile on the autism spectrum. It is a pervasive developmental condition (meaning it affects all areas of development) and was first identified by Elizabeth Newson in 2003, although it is still not currently recognised in many tools used for diagnosing autism. Individuals share characteristics with others on the Autistic spectrum and also have a distinct cluster of additional traits. It is worth noting that strategies, which are helpful for learners with autistic spectrum conditions, may not be useful in cases of PDA. Resources and information National Autistic Society - Further Information and resources regarding PDA PDA Society - Check out this video link (YouTube) further explaining PDA PDA Society Booklet - This booklet is designed to be an introductory guide to the Pathological Demand Avoidance profile of autism for individuals, families and professionals.
